Simple is Better with Ruckus’s Cloud Managed Wi-Fi

Posted December 11, 2018

Ruckus’s Cloud Managed Wi-Fi is more than just a cloud, it’s great Wi-Fi. Unlike most access points that broadcast an omni-directional signal, Ruckus maximizes signal coverage throughput and network capacity by continuously directing a signal at each client resulting in more users with more throughput per user anywhere. Further with Ruckus’s unique patented approach to channel management, Ruckus technology knows when a channel has become degraded and can switch channels after assessing the available capacity in each channel. This results in dramatic improvement and a usable network capacity, allowing devices to stay connected with more users per access point and fewer access points needed for deployment.

Cloud Wi-Fi takes the complexity out of deploying and managing a Wi-Fi network. No matter the size of your IT personnel, they’ll be able to establish, monitor and manage a high-performing multi-site WLAN of any size. The intent user interface of Cloud Wi-Fi presents network admins with only the information they need to manage the task at hand. This allows any member of the team, even with minimal experience, to manage the wireless LAN efficiently.

Aerohive’s High Performance AP550 802.11ac Wave 2 Dual-Radio 4×4:4 MIMO Access Point

Posted April 12, 2017

Aerohive AP550 Access Control SystemAs Wi-Fi capabilities constantly improve, having the right access point to meet your current and future network needs is crucial. Many bandwidth-hungry critical business applications are accessed over wireless networks; Wi-Fi infrastructures are expected to provide required speed and capacity, and user experience is measured beyond jitter and latency. Number and types of mobile devices that are connecting to Wi-Fi is exponential, and large numbers of new devices that do not require human intervention are joining wireless networks every day.

The Aerohive AP550 is an excellent choice to provide instant adaption to ever-changing capacity and density needs. AP550 features 4×4:4 MU-MIMO with aggregate data rates up to 3.46 Gbps per access point. Software configurable radio allows IT managers to enable dual 5GHz 802.11ac performance on both radios to provide the best of coverage and capacity Wi-Fi design and maximize ROI. Built-in BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) radio enables proximity, indoor location tracking, and other location-based mobile engagement services.

Key Features

  • Software selectable radio allowing either two 5 GHz 802.11a/n/ac radios (for High Density-High Capacity deployments) or concurrent 802.11a/n/ac and 802.11b/g/n radios
  • Full 4×4:4 Wave 2 802.11ac MU-MIMO and dual 5 GHz performance

802.11ac Tech Reference

Posted March 20, 2017

Everyone wants to get the most out of their wireless network and provide reliable service that isn’t a bottleneck in any application. From the warehouse floor to access for your customers, a faster, more capable network is essential to any business.

As wireless technology continues to improve the changes can be hard to keep up with. Many networks today are based on 802.11n which have been a larger improvement from previous Wi-Fi standards but 802.11ac is the next big step.

In essence, 802.11ac is a supercharged version of 802.11n. 802.11ac is dozens of times faster, and delivers speeds ranging from 433 Mbps (megabits per second) up to several gigabits per second. To achieve that kind of throughput, 802.11ac works exclusively in the 5GHz band, uses plenty of bandwidth (80 or 160MHz), operates in up to eight spatial streams (MIMO), and employs a kind of technology called beamforming that sends signal directly to client devices.

This convenient infographic helps illustrate all the capabilities 802.11ac provides and how is can improve your wireless experience. For more help finding the right access points and controllers to migrate to 802.11ac contact one of our wireless specialists.

Case Study: Using High-Speed Communications to Improve Paradise

Posted September 8, 2015

2015-09-08_1053SITUATION

Due to an outdated communications infrastructure and inefficient public and guestroom Wi-Fi access, the Grand Hyatt Kauai’s guest satisfaction ratings were dropping.

Although one of Hyatt’s showcase resort properties, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa was struggling with low guest satisfaction scores in its high-speed Internet service. The property’s outdated frame relay and microwave system was constantly going down during heavy rainstorms, requiring numerous resources— including helicopter service—and up to two weeks to fix problems. In addition, Wi-Fi service in guest rooms was slow, inconsistent and unreliable, especially during high occupancy periods like the holiday season.

SOLUTION

Working with a new service provider and using Zebra technology, the Grand Hyatt Kauai successfully completed the upgrade before the 2012 holiday season.

The Grand Hyatt Kauai worked with island-based systems integrator Pacific DirectConnect, a company highly experienced in the use of Zebra’s leading edge wireless technology. The team installed a high-speed wireless network using Zebra indoor Access Points (APs) and three-port wall plates in guestrooms, outdoor APs for property-wide roaming and an RF Switch (RFS) controller for consistent, reliable coverage everywhere on the resort. The system enables the resort to communicate with Wi-Fi-enabled devices, and the Hyatt corporate platform.

Zebra’s WiNG Smart RF Wireless Networking

Posted August 13, 2015

2015-08-13_0943WiNG (Wireless Infrastructure Next Generation) is at the heart of every Zebra wireless LAN and distributes intelligence to every access point and controller– so every Access Point (AP) can act as the virtual controller if necessary. SMART RF (Self Monitoring At Run Time) is built into the WiNG architecture found in all of Zebra’s access points and controllers making it easy to find the right hardware to meet your needs.

By automating many routine network tasks, it saves businesses time and resources – there’s no need for dedicated IT staff to manage the network. It’s like having an in-built RF engineer – the network tests and calibrates itself, reports problems and fixes faults before anyone is aware of them.

Organizations both large and small are increasingly dependent on mobile workers. In turn, those mobile workers rely on wireless networks. Problem is, planning and deploying wireless networks is difficult and time-consuming. And as new users and applications are added, managing and operating a wireless network becomes increasingly difficult.
