Code’s T500 Cable: What it is and How it Works

Posted July 31, 2019

Bluetooth Barcode Scanning Solution

CR5000 barcode scanner to improve wireless communication with T500 cable to scan QR code in retail setting.

Mobile devices have not only changed the way we communicate but the way we live our lives. They are our calendars, calculators, notepads, navigation devices, pedometers, budget organizers and so much more. The technology that can fit in our pockets is progressing to a point where we start to wonder, what can’t our mobile devices do?

Many businesses use a smartphone or tablet to run a point of sale (POS) or enterprise application. While consumer devices are a cost effective alternative to a traditional point of sale terminal, they are often designed with limited or even without USB ports. This makes it impossible to plug in a reader, which requires business owners to work around the problem with expensive battery-powered, wireless scanners.

Improve wireless communication for your Code barcodes scanner. An effective and rock solid solution for wireless communication for your fast paced internment.

Until now, cable options for wired barcode readers have been limited to USB or RS232 communication and were plugged directly into a port on a host device. Because the T500 cable has an embedded modem, when plugged into a Code wired barcode reader and powered on, it allows the reader to communicate to other Bluetooth-enabled devices via radio waves.

Now you can connect your barcode reader to your tablet the same way you would connect your Beats Pill or other Bluetooth speaker to listen to your tunes. Capable to work with Code’s You also don’t have to worry about recharging the Code reader, because it plugs right into the wall! Nice, right?

The Code T500 cable works with the CR1000, CR5000, and other scanners including the CR921, CR1400 and CR6000.

When you’re ready for a cost effective, rock-solid solution for wireless communication in your fast-paced environment, the T500 is more than ready to keep up.

What Kind of Barcode Scanner can Scan Driver License?

Posted November 29, 2018

Arguably the most common of form of ID, driver’s licenses are used any time we need to confirm who we are and more often than not, how old we are. If you take a look at the backside of your ID you’ll find a rectangular black and white pattern know as a PDF417 barcode. It may not look like your standard barcode but that PDF417 code contains all the information on the front of your ID in a single code.

PDF417 is a type of 2D barcode that is capable of storing much more information than the standard 1D code you find on products at the grocery store. You may be familiar with QR Codes that you’ve scanned with your phone. Both are types of 2D codes that can be read with a 2D Imager barcode scanner.

Many businesses are using the barcode on your ID and a 2D Imager like the AirTrack S2 to quickly verify your age or capture your basic info to make signing up for a service quicker. The only real snag with the barcode on your license is that every state doesn’t organize the information in the code the same way. The advantage here is that you cannot change the information in the barcode and to create a fake one requires knowing exactly how each state encodes the data.
If the barcode isn’t created properly, it won’t read properly.

With the AirTrack S2 scanner you can scan the code on the back of a driver’s licenses from any state to verify someone’s age quickly and accurately due to the scanner’s ability to parse all the data correctly for you. Since each state organizes the data differently the parsing software on the scanner outputs the data you need, in the order you need it, regardless of what state you are dealing with. It’s actually faster than looking at the ID.

Given how simple it is to get up and running, not using a scanner for age verification/customer info just doesn’t add up anymore. With a simple scan you can completely avoid fraudulent ID usage and save your business from legal issues, errors, and lost revenue.

New Peripheral Support for Star’s mPOP System

Posted June 2, 2017

Star has announced a new series of peripherals for their comprehensive mPOP system. Star’s mPOP now supports an optional scale, 2D barcode scanner, customer display, and external cash drawer. With these added peripherals, retailers and restaurateurs can now transform their mPOP into a complete point of sale hub to accept more versatile transactions in higher volume.

Star has integrated support for three Detecto APS scales. The APS scales supported are offered for varied use cases. The APS10 (max. 15 kg) is ideal for candy shops, delis, frozen yogurt shops, etc., where the APS20 (max. 15 kg) is better for larger items like bags of fruit and vegetables at a farmer’s market or grocery store. The APS12 (max. 160 oz.) is best in similar environments as the APS10, or any other location than prefers to measure in ounces.

Star has integrated a 2D barcode scanner for the mPOP. Now, users have the option of choosing between the Star 1D scanner and the new 2D scanner. The 2D barcode reader will be beneficial to accept coupons in the form of QR code, or access item information. In addition to 2D barcode scanner support, Star has designed a two-line, blue backlit customer display with up to 20 characters per line. With this support, the retailer can not only show the customer their transaction price, but they can also add advertising messages for when the mPOP is not being used.

Lastly, Star added a cash drawer connection port (DK port) to the mPOP to support an extra cash drawer. This is ideal for users who need a point of sale system with a small footprint, but still have a higher cash flow, such as a bar or deli.

Posted April 18, 2017

Convenience is the driving force behind every retail experience. From quick product availability to easy coupon use and a fast checkout, every customer wants an easy and trouble free shopping experience.

The last place you want sour any customer experience is the check-out line. Keeping lines short, easy, and fast is key. A common overlooked component to every point-of-sale system is the barcode scanner. Many businesses opt for the least costly barcode scanner not realizing how it may effect the overall experience. The DS9208 can even read barcodes off of a phone screen.

The DS9208 provides all the features you need to keep your workers productive, industry-leading scanning speed, true point-and-shoot scanning simplicity ‘ no need to align bar code and scanner, and hands-free and handheld flexibility.

AirTrack S2 Improves Voter Registration with Labor Union

Posted October 5, 2016

A nationally recognized labor union was searching for a way to automate their voter registration process and increase registrations. Historically, labor workers had to fill out a manual form to get registered to vote. This time-consuming process resulted in a low voter registration across the United States, including Nevada, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and others. Barcodes, Inc. was able to recommend the AirTrack S2 as their new voter registration scanner. The S2 features a 2D imager scan engine, lightweight design, and is able to withstand repeated drops from 5 feet onto a concrete surface.

The labor union was satisfied with Barcodes, Inc.’s scanner recommendation and even more impressed that Barcodes was able to configure the devices before shipping in order to read a barcode off of an individual’s driver’s license and parse only the information required and into their software program, thus saving both the union and the individual a lot of time. The labor union’s voter registration spiked, their accountability of registrations improved, and their start-to-finish registration process time decreased immensely.

Medsen Apotheken Saves Time and Improves Customer Experience with Datalogic’s Gryphon

Posted June 17, 2016

Datalogic Gryphon 4000 Series ScannerMedsen Apotheken owns a chain of 42 pharmacies in the Netherlands with over 550 employees.  The company’s philosophy is to always put the customers’ health first.  This means that pharmacists should be dedicating as much time as needed to each customer.  Medsen Apotheken relies on innovation and implements technology to fulfill this goal.

The Challenge

One of the issues that pharmacies face is prescription delivery times.  Anyone who goes to a pharmacy is familiar with the problem: the medication hasn’t arrived, or isn’t ready when the customer comes to collect it.  “We regularly had to send customers home empty-handed, because their orders had not been delivered,” explains pharmacist Huong Bom.  “Customers would call us in advance to ask about the status of their prescription to make sure their trip would be worthwhile,” continued Bom’s colleague, Thi Tran.  Both pharmacists work at Groot Driene pharmacy in Hengelo, a medium-sized pharmacy.  With the goal of better informing its customers and increasing customer satisfaction, Medsen Apotheken turned to technology to resolve this issue.  They collaborated with Datalogic Business Partner Viridis Nederland in Naarden.
