Zebra S4M Official Discontinuance Notice

Zebra has announced the discontinuance of the S4M series stationary printer line. The most suitable replacement for this product line is Zebra’s ZT200 series  printer.

The S4M will continue to be available through Zebra distributors until July 31, 2013, or possibly longer subject to distributor’s available inventory.

Service, parts and support will continue to be available for approximately three years from the last date of shipment—approximately until October 31, 2016, based upon parts availability.

Please note, EPL firmware for the ZT200 200 dpi platform will be released on June 30, 2013. This firmware will be available for download on the Support and Downloads page of the Zebra Web site.

Star Micronics’ SM-S220i Pairs with Appetize Application

Star Micronics recently announced support of the SM-S220i Bluetooth by the Appetize app. Appetize is an iPhone and Android based mobile app that allows fans at entertainment venues to purchase food, drinks, and merchandise from the comfort of their seats.

Launched in 2012, Appetize has been in service in California and New York for major events including The Black Keys, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kelly Clarkson and the Los Angeles Lakers. Fans can easily enter their order and pay from their mobile device, and the order will be delivered to their seats.

The Appetize app will pair with the SM-S220i to print receipts, which contain pertinent product delivery information such as seat number, order, total sale, price and contact information. The Bluetooth connection of the SM-S220i allows the Appetize system to print receipts at the venue’s refreshment or souvenir stands without putting greater burden on the already stressed mobile and WiFi networks in the venue. Equipped with a sleek, compact and lightweight design, it is compatible with all operating systems including iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod) and all Bluetooth devices.

Code Announces Fully Integrated Wi-Fi Imaged-Based Bar Code Reader

Code announced plans to launch its newest offering; a fully integrated Wi-Fi image based bar code reader this spring. The technology will be added to the existing Code Reader 2600 (CR2600), which raised the industry bar for image based decoding and omnidirectional reading of both 1D and 2D bar codes when it launched in the fall of 2012. Garrett Russell, vice-president of marketing at Code stressed the clear benefits to users: “With the introduction of Code Wi-Fi readers, companies now have a long range option for added mobility, increased security and greater profitability”.

The Code Reader 2600 available in Bluetooth and now Wi-Fi versions give users the flexibility to select a mobile bar code reading solution that best fits their present and future needs. The Code Reader 2600 Wi-Fi version will allow businesses to increase coverage range that were once restricted to Bluetooth, enabling real-time communication over existing Wi-Fi networks.

Intermec Announces Replacement of PM4i with the PM43

The full-sized PM43 is the direct replacement for the PM4i, and the compact PM43c directly replaces the PF4i industrial printer.

Q: How is the PM43 printer positioned within the Intermec printer line?

A: The PM43 series is targeted at the high end of the industrial mid-range printer market segment. With the ability to run Fingerprint/DP, IPL, DSIM, and ZSIM all pre-loaded on the printer and with full backwards compatibility, the PM43 provides a “drop-in” replacement for most applications currently using 86XX, 4000, 4100, 3400, 401, F4i, PF4i and PM4i printers.

Q: What is the difference between the PM43 and the PM43c?

A: The PM43 and PM43c have the same electronics package and similar mechanical design. The user interface between the PM43 and PM43c differs slightly in the layout of the keypad. The taller PM43 accommodates a 212mm (8.375in) media roll, 450mm (18,000in) ribbon and optional full-batch rewinder. It features two available slots for optional interface cards and both front and rear USB host ports.
