With the Toughbook H1 Field, Panasonic is offering a more rugged version of its innovative H1 platform originally conceived as a Mobile Clinical Assistant. It’s a handy, lightweight tablet computer that brings Panasonic’s considerable expertise in rugged and semi-rugged mobile computing equipment into a variety of field-based .

Based on a very frugal 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, the H1 Field sports a clean, ergonomic, fanless design that’s easy to use, easy to hold, and easy to carry. A weight of just 3.4 pounds and hot-swappable dual batteries that combine for six hours of uninterrupted operation add to the real-life usefulness of the design.

The H1 Field is not only compact and light, it also features a wealth of integrated data capture technologies (depending on the version, RFID, barcode reader, camera, smart card reader), and multiple wireless connectivity options, including the Gobi2000 wide area wireless technology that supports the various wireless networking technologies around the world, so users can select whatever carrier is available to them. However, those used to a wealth of onboard ports won’t find them on the H1 Field; almost all wired connectivity is via dock.

Equipped with a very bright, sunlight-viewable 10.4-inch display that has both a touch screen and an electromagnetic digitizer, the heavily ruggedized Toughbook H1 Field is an attractive solution and productivity tool for mobile workers in a large number of fields where equipment will take the occasional drop and spill.

Star TSP143U (USB) Printer Certified for SAP Point of Sale

Star Micronics announced that its TSP143U (USB) printer has achieved SAP-certified integration with the SAP® Point-of-Sale (POS) application. Tier-one retail customers utilizing SAP POS can now add the TSP143U (USB) printer to their point-of-sale solutions.

The SAP Integration and Certification Center has certified that the TSP143U (USB) integrates with SAP POS via the point-of-sale hardware (POS-HW) 1.0 integration scenario.

“Star Micronics is honored to announce certification for the TSP143U from a business software leader like SAP AG,” said Michael Hanson, vice president, Star Micronics America, Inc. “The TSP143U is one of the most popular thermal POS printers on the market today, due to its futurePRNT capabilities, design and cost structure. The SAP certification further adds to the TSP143U attraction for retailers.”

The TSP143U (USB) is the POS industry’s first all-in-one receipt printer. All the parts and software are included in one box, including an internal power supply, interface cable, power cable, complete mounting kits and a paper roll. Epson POS Printers Set the Standard in Energy Efficiency

TM-T88IV and TM-H6000III Printers Use Significantly Less Energy than Competitive Models

Epson, a leading supplier of value-added point-of-service (POS) solutions, announced that two of its leading POS printers, the TM-T88IV and the TM-H6000III, ranked highest in energy efficiency, consuming significantly less energy than same-class competitive models. The results derive from stringent, side-by-side tests among twelve competitive products performed by Seiko Epson Corporation in 2009*.

TM-T88IV Thermal Printer

Epson’s TM-T88IV single-station thermal printer with USB interface was tested against nine same-class competitive models, including three Star, two Citizen, two Bixolon, one IBM and one Ithaca. Testing results indicate that the Epson TM-T88IV uses between 53% and 84% fewer kilowatt hours as compared to the next best performing and worst performing models tested. Results also showed that the Epson TM-T88IV, introduced in 2005, uses significantly less energy than some of the same-class printers introduced in 2009. With over five million units installed worldwide, Epson’s TM-T88-series is the best-selling thermal printer in the POS industry.

TM-H6000III Multifunction Printer

Epson’s TM-H6000III multifunction printer with USB interface was tested against three same-class competitive models, including two NCR and one IBM. Testing results indicate that the Epson TM-H6000III uses between 39% and 48% fewer kilowatt hours as compared to the next best performing and worst performing models tested. Results also showed that the Epson TM-H6000III, introduced in 2006, uses significantly less energy than newer competitors. The TM-H6000III delivers high-speed receipt and slip printing, endorsement, two-color graphics and features industry-leading MICR accuracy of over 99.9%.
