The New Datalogic Touch TD1100 Linear Imager
Datalogic has announced the availability of the new Touch TD1100 linear imager contact reader. The Touch TD1100 reader is a linear imager alternative to low-cost laser scanners. It has been developed to enhance the very successful (but dated) Touch 65/90 Pro and Lite models. The Pro and Lite readers have been very successful in the last 10 years and are among the major revenue generators of all time for Datalogic’s handheld product range.
The Touch TD1100 readers feature a stylish new design combined with enhanced performance and durability to provide the new Touch readers with all the requisites needed in
order to compete with a higher-range class of competitive products.
The Touch TD1100 series of linear imaging contact readers represents Datalogic’s solution for customers who require a cost-effective solution for close-contact bar code reading without sacrificing quality or performance. Designed for low throughput applications within multiple markets, the Touch TD1100 readers provide the guarantee of contact reading with an excellent reading capability on virtually all linear bar codes, including damaged or poorly printed codes. Small, lightweight and low on energy consumption, the Touch TD1100 readers continue to provide robustness with a 1.5 m / 5.0 ft drop resistance, which is typical of higher range products.
The Touch TD1100 readers are available with the option of two different sizes of reading windows: 6.5 cm / 2.6 in (TD1100-65) for reading standard bar codes or 9.0 cm / 3.5 in (TD1100-90) for reading wide bar codes. Both options will be provided with a complete all-in-one multi-interface solution including RS-232, USB and Keyboard Wedge (TD1130) and with USB or RS-232 / Keyboard Wedge interfaces (TD1120/TD1170).
An innovative ‘read-thru’ holder provides the Touch TD1100 readers with hands-free reading capability on documents or small items. The Touch TD1100 series is available in a black model only, however, they will be
soon be available in a white version as well as additional custom color options for a minimum order quantity.

This product has virtually no competition against the same range of products, while providing overwhelming performance and superior robustness. When compared with same range of contact readers, the Touch
TD1100 reader is a higher performing reader in all characteristics while providing a comparable or even lower price point. Additionally, the new Touch readers are challenging in features and performance when compared
to higher range laser scanners, but at a much lower price point.
Major Industry Applications
The main target for the new Touch reader is ‘Retail’ in the non-food sector. The main application is POS checkout with limited throughput and linear reading requirements only. For this application, customers may choose this product mainly for its affordable price. Performance doesn’t have to be the top requirement for our Touch customers. If a customer is in need of higher performance requirements in a scanner, Datalogic ADC can provide one of the widest and deepest selections of readers on the market.
An additional target for the Touch TD1100 readers includes Document Handling for office automation especially for public administration agencies where budgets are always tight and reading requirements are not sophisticated.
Also, Public Administration is still a segment where there are many expectations in terms of market growth. This is a direct link in the need for cost saving applications and efficiency in Public Administration and their related agencies or associations. The application in this sector is still Document Handling where 100% accuracy of captured data is achievable with no chance of manual data-entry errors. This is a clear benefit provided by the scanning process.
