The New Denso AT20Q Full 2D Imager

Posted September 24, 2012

Denso, inventor of the QR Code, launched a new and more versatile AT20-Q handheld scanner, which offers high-speed scanning of both 2-D barcodes, such as the QR Code, as well as conventional 1-D barcodes.

The AT20Q features a high-speed shutter that eliminates the effect of camera shake and allows quick reading from any direction, increasing operator efficiency. Anti-reflection technology enables reliable reading of barcodes on mobile-phone LCD screens.

By combining the latest Denso algorithms with an increased number of pixels, the AT20Q provides trouble-free scanning of wide barcodes, such as those used for utility and medical bills. A newly developed scanning module easily accommodates 1-D barcodes with resolutions down to 0.125 mm and 2-D barcodes down to 0.167 mm, further extending the AT20Q’s application range.

The AT20Q is also highly durable, with a rugged, shock-absorbing construction that allows it to withstand being dropped onto a concrete floor from a height of 2 meters (6.5 feet) — the highest standard in its class — and 100,000 times from 20 centimeters (7.9 inches), sustaining a far greater number of impacts than would ordinarily occur in actual use. In addition, the device features IP42 dust- and water-resistant protection, as well as a connector-cable locking mechanism that prevents damage to the connector or cable.

The AT20Q’s compact, lightweight and ergonomic design makes it easy to hold and use, reducing operator fatigue.

Antimicrobial materials incorporated into the AT20Q’s housing, in compliance with the JIS Z2801 test protocol, prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and fungi, making the AT20Q ideal for situations where devices are shared.

“At DENSO, our company philosophy is constant improvement,” said Fran Labun, vice president, Sales Groups. “With the AT20Q, we have incorporated all our latest features and benefits into an affordable handheld 2-D scanner that we are certain our customers will welcome.”
