Zebra Printers Continue to Be Energy Star Compliant
Zebra products are designed to provide the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to our customers, including the amount of energy our printers consume. ENERGY STAR is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) voluntary program that certifies products meeting higher standards of reduced energy consumption. Printers that are ENERGY STAR-qualified consume approximately 10% less energy than a standard product. We’re proud that many of our printers are ENERGY STAR-qualified.
As of Jan. 1, 2014, ENERGY STAR is changing its certification criteria and implementing Version 2 regulations. The majority of the Zebra printers that currently have ENERGY STAR certification will continue to be compliant with the new ENERGY STAR Version 2 regulations.
All Zebra Desktop printers are currently ENERGY STAR-certified and will remain so. To keep this certification, the GX Series, GK Series and GT800 required firmware upgrades to ensure top performance at the designated reduced electrical current. The new firmware has been tested and is in compliance with ENERGY STAR Version 2 regulations. All GX, GT and GK Series printers manufactured after January 1, 2014 will be shipped with the new firmware.
The 110Xi4, 105SLPlus, ZM400 and ZM600 are impacted by the Version 2 regulations, and effective with printers manufactured after January 1, 2014, are no longer ENERGY STAR-compliant. The loss of ENERGY STAR certification for these printers is the result of the ENERGY STAR Version 2 regulations. Zebra has not made any changes to these products that resulted in the loss of compliance.
- The 110Xi4 will be modified to meet the new regulations and come back into compliance during 2014; however, the specific timing for compliance is not yet finalized. No other Xi4 printers are impacted by the Version 2 regulations and the 140Xi4, 170Xi4 and 220Xi4 will remain ENERGY STAR-certified.
- The ZM400 and ZM600 will not be upgraded to meet the Version 2 requirements. The replacement for these printers, the ZT400 Series, will be ENERGY STAR-certified and is scheduled to be available in early Q2.
The Version 2 regulations remove from the ENERGY STAR program all printers that do not print on paper-based media. Due to this change the ENERGY STAR program no longer pertains to Zebra Card printers. Zebra Card printers that are manufactured after January 1, 2014 will no longer carry the ENERGY STAR certification, however, Zebra will continue to produce card products that provide the best performance while minimizing environmental impact.
Kiosk Printer Line
All of the KR Series printers and the TTP Series printers remain ENERGY STAR-certified.
The ENERGY STAR regulations have never applied to battery operated devices. Zebra Mobile printers have always been excluded from the ENERGY STAR program.
