Axis’ network cameras secure Sydney suburban rail

Posted October 21, 2009

Did you know that BarcodesInc carries a complete selection of video surveillance hardware including security cameras and security DVR’s?

AxisAxis Communications today announced that Axis network cameras have been selected for use in Sydney’s new Waratah train suburban fleet. The total installation order is estimated at about 7,000 network cameras. The installation will begin Fall 2009 and is expected to continue for the next three to four years.

Installations of network video solutions within the transportation segment have increased during the past few years and network video products from Axis have been installed in several demanding transportation environments.

“We are proud to deliver our solution to the trains in Sydney in order to increase safety and security on the trains.” said Ray Mauritsson, President, Axis Communications. “Axis’ network camera AXIS 209MFD-R addresses the market’s demand for video surveillance in locations where an ultra-compact solution is required and it is specifically designed for the transportation segment”

Each train will have around 100 Axis networked cameras ensuring that the full length and breadth of each carriage can be monitored to provide enhanced security and safety for commuters. The palm-sized Axis 209MFD-R network cameras have been specifically designed for mass transit and are flat, discreet and tamper resistant. Designed specifically for handling vibrations, humidity, dust and temperature fluctuations that is typical of mass transit vehicles, the cameras are connected via Power over Ethernet (PoE) using the train’s communication network, which eliminates the need for separate power cables.
