Epson Announces Their New Mobile POS Printer With Bluetooth iOS Support

Posted December 26, 2012

Epson, a leading supplier of value-added Point of Sale (POS) solutions, announced that its popular Mobilink P60 thermal printers are now available with Bluetooth connectivity for the iOS mobile operating system. Available in both receipt and label versions, the new Mobilink devices allow retail and hospitality customers to take advantage of wireless printing from all handheld iDevice peripherals, including Apple’s iPad, iPod touch and iPhone, connecting via the Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR wireless networking standard. Bluetooth’s open standard wireless communications protocol creates a stable, reliable connection and is a cost effective option for short-range transactions of up to 30 feet. Epson’s new Mobilink products meet the skyrocketing customer demand for highly reliable, Bluetooth-based mobile printing from iDevices throughout retail stores and hospitality environments.

Epson has simplified the process required to secure Apple’s approval for iOS Bluetooth applications. Epson’s software development kits (SDK) are designed to shorten the development time required to implement mobile POS applications, enabling support for wireless POS printing from handheld peripherals. Mobilink also supports Google’s Android mobile technology platform and Windows operating systems, with connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11 and Bluetooth.

According to the IHL Group, mobile POS technology is a $5.5 billion business worldwide, and the single fastest-moving trend in retail since Internet access was added to stores. “As a market leader in POS printing, Epson is at the forefront of mobile and wireless retail printing technologies,” commented Gregg Brunnick, Director of Marketing for Epson’s Business Systems Division. “We were first to the market with a mobile POS printer, and now we’ve added Bluetooth connectivity to this product. It’s an ideal printing solution, because you can print receipts or labels from iDevices, and you can take the printer wherever the customer is. It’s the best of both worlds for mobile POS printing.”

Mobilink was the first wireless mobile receipt printer designed specifically for retail and hospitality environments and has been growing in popularity since its original launch in October 2003. Mobilink is based on Epson’s best-selling TM-T88 series and is designed for high-speed, reliable on-the-go thermal receipt or label printing. With features such as an autocutter with its receipt version and a label peeler with its label version, Mobilink supports a wide range of mobile printing applications including line busting, table-side service, warehousing and logistics, route sales, and shelf and product labeling. Mobilink is ruggedized and is CPCL-compatible for easy drop-in Zebra replacement.

Mobilink is available with belt clip and shoulder strap options for maximum flexibility and both receipt and label versions are now available through Epson’s extensive reseller and distribution channels.
