Guest Looking for a Wifi, probably PDA type scanner to keep track of tool usage on our manufacturing line. I'd like something that can be programmed with relative ease to query a Unix database, display queried data and prompt for user input based on a specific series of scans, and then finally submit a database entry to a remote database.

Almost all mobile computers come with 802.11 a/b/g capabilities these days but given that you are in a manufacturing environment I would suggest the Motorola MC3100. This device is rugged enough for your application and with a Windows Mobile OS can be up and running on your network in no time. For integration with your existing Unix database some kind of application will need to be running on the Motorola device which we can custom make for you as well.
