 Guest I need a bar code scanner for automotive VIN scanning to use at an auction.

Since VIN codes are often located in the dash or door of the vehicle I would suggest an imager based scanner like the Honeywell Xenon 1900. This scanner is a camera based imager which allows reading through a windshield with much better performance than a typical laser scanner. If you need something more mobile there is the Xenon 1902 which is a cordless version of the scanner.
