I'm interested in a scanner for a library that consist of approx. 2000-4000 books that can record its inventory onto a computer.

For a simple batch scanner to collect a library inventory I would suggest the Honeywell SP5500. This device can scan all the individual book codes and store the data into a text file internally. Once inventory is done you can then upload the text file to your PC to process as needed.
