Guest We are a security printer printing checkbooks here in Manila, Philippines and are using many large volume digital printers to print variable data on different base stock. Is there a way we can mount a bar code scanner on our machines to scan the pre-printed bar codes on our base stock so that it if the machine picks a different base stock (with a different pre-printed bar code), an alarm can be triggered to warn us?

There are a host of fixed mount scanners that offer a range of communications options to interface with your current system. Depending on the speed of your system I would initially suggest the Datalogic DS1100. This unit can read all standard 1D linear codes and has additional digital I/O to interface with an alarm system or the printer itself. The scanner will still be connected to a PC or a PLC to manage the code matching and we can help develop an application to do so.
