Guest Do you have any handheld scanners that can read both bar codes and printed text? Are there any limitations on the OCR? I.e. Only certain fonts, etc.? We have trash containers in the field that may have bar codes or only a printed serial #. Is it simple to switch back and forth between bar code and printed text scanning?

Any of the 2D Imagers from Honeywell can read any bar code as well as OCR fonts. The Dolphin 99EX would be ideal for in the field usage as it is very rugged and has any wireless communication option you may need while still reading bar codes and OCR text without any need to switch anything on the unit. The main thing to keep in mind though is that there are only 2 OCR fonts, OCR-A and OCR-B. If the serial numbers on the trash cans are not in one of these 2 fonts the no scanner will ever be able to read them.
