Guest I need a USB bar code scanner and software to run on a Windows 7 hand held computer for field soil samples. The computer has 1 GB of RAM and a 32 GB hard drive with 2 USB ports. Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on if you would like the scanner to be corded or cordless there are a range of suitable units for you. In the case of a corded scanner I would look at the Honeywell 3800G and the 3820 for a cordless option. Both of these scanners will not require any additional software to function as they will emulate a keyboard. As long as you have an application open and the cursor selected in a text field the scanners will feed the scanned data into this field.
