An electronic logging device is used to electronically record a driver&#8217;s record of duty status, which replaces the paper logbook for drivers to record their hours of service (HOS) requirements.\u00c2\u00a0 Fleets that were equipped with electronic logging technology (AOBRDs) before Dec. 2017 have until Dec. 2019 to ensure compliance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/FR-2015-12-16\/pdf\/2015-31336.pdf\">published specifications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits of an ELDs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Save driver time by reducing paperwork to ensure it is recorded properly<\/li>\n<li>Keep a dispatcher up to date on driver&#8217;s status<\/li>\n<li>Reduce a hassle of keeping a paper log<\/li>\n<li>Easy tracking driver&#8217;s HOS<\/li>\n<li>Ensure driving segments are recorded from truck&#8217;s engine<\/li>\n<li>Ease of data transfer from driver to fleet manager where one can see e-logs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Rugged Handhelds:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The FMCSA addressed that rugged handhelds and tablets can be used as long as the system meets the ELD requirements.
