Each of these has specific \u00c2\u00a0advantages \u00c2\u00a0and disadvantages \u00c2\u00a0in terms \u00c2\u00a0of durability, cost and ease of reading.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0The main advantages \u00c2\u00a0of codes with \u00c2\u00a0DPM technology are that \u00c2\u00a0the code is permanently marked \u00c2\u00a0on a surface and will \u00c2\u00a0survive \u00c2\u00a0for a long \u00c2\u00a0time \u00c2\u00a0(ideally \u00c2\u00a0forever), regardless \u00c2\u00a0of the \u00c2\u00a0stress the part is passing \u00c2\u00a0through during its&#8217; life cycle. The holes created by the mechanical percussion cause a different reflection\/diffusion of the incident light on the surface to recreate \u00c2\u00a0the dark and light elements \u00c2\u00a0that \u00c2\u00a0characterize a bar code. \u00c2\u00a0Dot peening \u00c2\u00a0is generally used with \u00c2\u00a0metal parts \u00c2\u00a0and it is very common in the automotive industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ink Jet Printing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ink jet\u00c2\u00a0 printing mark is created by directly spraying ink onto \u00c2\u00a0the surface \u00c2\u00a0of the part, \u00c2\u00a0producing a pattern of spots.<\/p>\n<p>The ink jet\u00c2\u00a0 method is generally compatible with \u00c2\u00a0any substrate material, such as plastic, metal, glass, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Since this \u00c2\u00a0method is based on an ink deposit, the ink marking is less persistent than \u00c2\u00a0other \u00c2\u00a0methods and could be inappropriate for harsh production environments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scanning\u00c2\u00a0DPM Barcodes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barcodesinc.com\/cats\/barcode-scanners\/dpm.htm\">DPM scanners<\/a> are usually \u00c2\u00a0equipped with \u00c2\u00a0specialized illumination systems in order\u00c2\u00a0 to improve the readability of codes using \u00c2\u00a0DPM technology. The object \u00c2\u00a0surface can be reflective, shiny, polished, or be a contrasting rough surface.
