Black Friday Shows an Uptick in EMV Usage

Posted November 29, 2017

black friday in-store payment methodsThe uptick in EMV usage has increased yet again since 2015’s liability shift. Of the credit card transactions made on Black Friday this year chip-on-chip usage went up from 55% in 2016 to 73% this year, according to Cayan. Magnetic Stripe usage went down from 34% to 18%. This is a good sign as this will likely continue the decline of in-store card fraud because of the safety that chip cards provide.

It’s clear that EMV is here to stay and something that should be included in any standard POS Terminals. Not having an EMV POS terminal could risk the loss of potential clients. See below for some options on EMV equipped POS terminals.

A Royal Point of Sale System

Posted September 27, 2017

Royal-Caribbean-International

Challenge

Royal Caribbean International is known for driving innovation at sea and has continuously redefined cruise vacationing since its launch in 1969. Each successive class of ships is an architectural marvel and pushes the envelope of what is possible on a cruise ship. Onboard, the global cruise line has debuted countless industry “firsts” – such as rock climbing, ice skating and surfing at sea – to capture the imagination of families and adventurous vacationers alike. Throughout, guests sail on exciting itineraries to some of the world’s most popular destinations and enjoy Royal Caribbean’s friendly and engaging service.

While delivering innovative entertainment onboard their luxury cruise ships, they required their various restaurants, shops, and bars to process point of sale payments for their customers looking to indulge in food, entertainment, and shopping. They wanted to deliver a quick, seamless and positive point of sale experience for their customers.

Analysis

Royal Caribbean sought a point of sale hardware system that would meet their customer experience demands and be compatible with their point of sale software solution. They sought a bundle that included receipt printers, touchscreens, and barcode scanners for their various restaurants, shops and entertainment facilities. Additionally, they wanted a kitchen receipt printer to meet the demanding requirements of a busy restaurant without sacrificing performance.

Solution

To provide an appropriate solution, Barcodes, Inc. worked closely with Royal Caribbean to test the compatibility between the hardware and software. Barcodes selected the Epson TM-T88V, an industry-leading point of sale receipt printer that offers fast printing, best-in-class reliability, and ease-of-use features. The TM-T88V is also ENERGY STAR qualified and offers print options that reduce paper usage up to 30 percent. Combined with the ELO 1523L touchscreen monitor and Zebra DS4308 barcode scanner, it was the ideal point of sale hardware bundle that Royal Caribbean required to run their point of sale operations effectively.

For the restaurant setting, Barcodes recommended the Epson TM-U220B, a high-speed throughput kitchen receipt printer that allowed customer receipts and kitchen orders to print faster than any other device. The TM- U220B comes equipped with an auto-cutter, which slices a clean edge, leaving a small portion of the receipt uncut so that they are still barely attached – ideal for printing duplicate receipts such as credit card receipts or gift receipts.

Results

The point of sale system that was delivered by Barcodes was easily deployed to the 40+ cruise ships and easily adopted by the employees aboard each of these ships.

Since purchasing the point of sale systems from Barcodes, Inc., Royal Caribbean has seen an uptick in productivity, quicker turnaround times on sales and kitchen orders, and a decrease in wait times for customers in line.

Royal Caribbean now has the peace of mind that every point of sale experience is first-class and can keep the line moving in order to increase revenue streams while keeping their customers happy.

Cell Touch Uses AirTrack S1 for Retail Point of Sale

Posted December 14, 2016

Cell Touch is an authorized dealer for MetroPCS across Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. They reached out to Barcodes, Inc. because they were having complications with their existing barcode scanners, which had sub-par scanning performance and consistently broke on-site. Cell Touch wanted a barcode scanner that wouldn’t require the clerks at their retail locations to scan multiple times to get a good read and something that was capable of providing good-read feedback. Additionally, they wanted a hands-free solution that allowed their clerks to simply wave the barcode across the line of sight instead of having to manually pick up the barcode scanner to scan.

Barcodes, Inc. recommended the AirTrack S1 for Cell Touch’s retail point of sale locations. The S1 is a small, lightweight, and ergonomic barcode scanner that comes equipped with Green Spot technology for good-read feedback. The AirTrack barcode scanner is also available with a gooseneck stand that offers a flexible and hands-free scanning solution at the point of sale. Barcodes worked with Cell Touch to test out the S1 at 15 of their retail locations. Upon receiving positive feedback from the individual stores’ employees they moved forward with launching AirTrack as their scanning brand of choice. Cell Touch is expanding into new locations and Barcodes, Inc. will continue to be their trusted data capture advisor.

Datalogic Heron Scanners Deployment by Euro Garages

Posted April 28, 2016

Datalogic has announced that Euro Garages, one of the UK’s largest privately-owned forecourt operators, is the first in the UK to roll out the Heron HD3100 barcode scanners.

Euro Garages, which had acquired 195 Esso sites in the UK from a series of sales that started in 2012, needed a barcode scanning solution at the point-of-sale that would integrate seamlessly with its Verifone chip and pin system. “We looked at a number of options before choosing the Datalogic device,” comments Guy Bickerstaffe, Regional Manager at Euro Garages. “The Heron barcode scanner, which was the only device that was compatible with our Verifone chip and pin system, enables us to scan a customer’s loyalty card to award Tesco’s Clubcard points.”
