Wearable Mobile Computers: A Hands-Free Advantage

Posted May 21, 2018

wearables-blogWarehouses and Distribution centers are seeing wearable mobile computers revolutionize the industry. Providing increased flexibility, operational improvement, improved productivity, and significant cost savings. With wearable computers users will be free from the constraints of using one hand to carry around a scanner or mobile computer; instead users will have the flexibility to work hands-free while still accessing the data they need to complete the tasks at hand. A hands-free user will be able to accelerate picking, packing and shipping operations.

A Honeywell survey stated that on average companies lose over $400,000 every year in picking errors. With these lightweight and compact computers, users will have a wide range of motion. This allows users to complete tasks in less time without losing the valuable accuracy that is needed.

There are a variety of options when it comes to wearable mobile computers. Two of the industries leaders, Honeywell and Zebra, have options that could help turn around warehouse and distribution centers.

Honeywell’s rugged Dolphin 75-e Wearable has a large display with flexible touchscreen keypads. The accessories provide increased comfort and improved hygiene over conventional wearables. Combine it with the 8620 Ring scanner to get a truly hands-free experience that is guaranteed to help improve productivity in the workplace.

Zebra’s WT6000 Wearable Computer fits comfortably on any size arm and with a large touchscreen that provides more real estate to display intuitive graphical Android applications. Pair it with the RS6000 Bluetooth ring scanner and users will have the technology to take their productivity level up a notch.

Zebra’s LI36X8-ER: An Unstoppable Performer for Extended Range 1D Barcode Scanning

Posted May 11, 2018

li3608-2The latest models in Zebra’s 3600 Series Ultra-Rugged Scanners are here. The corded LI3608-ER and cordless LI3678-ER share the same characteristics that made the 3600 series so popular: an ultra-rugged design, superior performance, and unrivaled manageability. Designed for multiple environments including indoor, outdoor, and even freezer use.

The cordless LI3678-ER gives users the freedom to move around as needed. With Bluetooth 4.0, users will get maximum communication speeds with maximum energy.  Zebra’s Wi-Fi Friendly mode helps eliminate wireless interference in your Wi-Fi network. A charge gauge makes it easy for users to monitor the batteries power. The battery allows 100,000 scans per charge thanks to Zebra’s PowerPrecision+ which offers 50,000 more scans per charge than competitive models.

Zebra has gone above and beyond with these two rugged scanners; with a linear imager that delivers fast capture speeds of all 1D barcodes displayed on a screen or printed on a label. These two scanners are unique as the only models in its class that offers an 8 foot (2.4 meter) drop to concrete and a submersible IP67 sealing. Avoid Printing Disruptions with Zebra Supplies

Posted May 10, 2018

It is important to choose the right printing supplies to prevent any operational hang ups. It is just as costly to operate with the wrong supplies as to operating without them. When labels fall off, gets hard to scan, cripples the printheads, or jams the printer causes unnecessary bottlenecks, often times means downtime in your operation.

Learn about how Zebra supplies can help you avoid all that. If you want to learn more, feel free to contact our dedicated account manager for a free assessment on the type of printing supplies you should use.

Quality Matters: Zebra Puts Wristband Durability to the Test

Posted May 2, 2018

wristband 3

Automated patient identification is essential to protecting the well-being of patients and the integrity of the healthcare system. Wristbands plays a big part of this process. The wristbands must be durable enough to withstand the rigors of the busy hospital environment and exposure to daily usage of hand sanitizers.

When it comes to quality, Zebra put their wristbands to the test. The wristbands went under a severe stress testing to a wide range of exposures such as isopropyl, rubbing alcohol, water, and hand sanitizers.  It is tested that Zebra’s Z-band direct and the Z-Band UltraSoft wristbands are more durable against Purell Waterless Hand Sanitizer than the leading competitor.

Z-Band Direct Wristbands are latex-free and MR-safe. These direct thermal polypropylene wristbands are scannable up to 14 days even with the hospital’s busy environment and constant use of hand sanitizers.

Z-Band UltraSoft Wristbands are thermal synthetic bands that are MR-safe and latex-free.

wristband 4

ARDL conclusively found that both Z-Band Direct and UltraSoft were more durable than the leading competitors bands. The scanners were able to read the wristbands for a longer period of time before it becomes unscannable.

Quality Matters especially in the fast-pace environment, like the hospital. Zebra is committed to providing quality wristbands that meet the high standards for image durability, sustainability, and comfort. The Z-Bands are available in adult, pediatric, and infant sizes.

If you are interested in learning more about the wristbands or a compatible printer, feel free to contact one of our dedicated account managers for a quote or more info.

ELD Enforcement is Here

Posted April 30, 2018

The Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Mandate took effect on December 18, 2017. Since then drivers were given some leeway. If they were caught without the proper ELD equipment, documents, or training they were written up, but neither they nor the companies they drive for were penalized for it. That leeway officially ended on April 1st.

Under the Compliance, Safety, and Accountability program (CSA) any driver now caught without the proper ELD equipment will have CSA points levied against them and their companies. Furthermore, according to Kerri Wirachowsky, Director of the roadside inspection program at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, trucks will be put into the penalty box, in most cases for up to 10 hours.

With the ELD Mandate drivers must have and be able to do the following.

  1. Tell enforcement that there is an electronic user manual with instructions for using the device, on the device, in the form of help screens.
  2. Be able to produce recent data and transfer it to an inspector electronically.
  3. Instructions for reporting malfunctions and record-keeping procedures during malfunctions.
  4. Have at least an eight day supply of blank forms for recording a driver’s hours of service in the event the mobile device fails.

April 1st has come and gone, hence if drivers are not ELD compliant by now its important to do so. Mainly because just having an ELD does not mean the driver is in compliance. The driver must also be able to operate the ELD. Not being able to do so will be treated as if the driver didn’t have the proper equipment on board.

To comply with the ELD Mandate you’ll need a device, below are some of the newest mobile device options for ELD:
