How Do I Change The Swappable Interface On My Star Printer?

Posted December 13, 2012

As a leading POS printer manufacturer, Star Micronics provides support for Serial, Parallel, USB, Powered USB, and Ethernet printing. We understand that systems, configuration, and POS software can change, which can result in a desired or necessary upgrade to POS hardware. Star printers have been affectionately coined by our customers as “Workhorses” because of their long operation lives and high reliability… Purchasing a new printer just to upgrade the interface is a costly and unnecessary expense to store and restaurant owners, which is why Star supports swappable interface connections for many of its models. This feature is especially convenient for users upgrading from old systems requiring serial interfaces to new systems that support USB or Ethernet connections.

Epson TM-T88V Awarded Japanese 2012 Good Design Award

Posted November 5, 2012

Epson has announced that its TM-T88V printer has been recognized in the Japanese 2012 Good Design Awards. The Epson receipt printer was commended for their contributions to lifestyle enriching design.

This compact receipt printer contains built-in POS terminal functions, and can be easily incorporated into small POS systems. This product, which was created with an eye to retailers using a cloud-based system, allows web printing and direct control of touch panels, barcode scanners, etc.

Judges’ comments: Displays and barcode scanners are important elements of POS systems in addition to the terminals and the printers. It’s essential for such products to be easy to use from the standpoint of both the retailer and the systems integrator, and must fit into retail environments of all types. We highly evaluate the way in which this product fulfills such requirements with a utilitarian, universal shape that efficiently combines two blocks into a single unit. Despite the difficulty in dealing with the two-block resin components, the product achieves a high level of design that includes attention to detail and a feeling of high precision.

Star Receipt Printer Helps Improve Customer Service at the Sunglass Shop

Posted June 16, 2011

The Sunglass Shop bills itself as a customer-driven establishment where shoppers come first. The family-owned “Mom and Pop” store offers 2,500 pairs of sunglasses in a wide range of brands, styles and prices, as well as sunglass-related items.

After installing a Star TSP700 thermal receipt printer, store personnel can quickly and easily generate receipts that show where, when and at what price shoppers bought their sunglasses and/or accessories. Customers who need subsequent assistance with their purchases or have general questions need only refer to their receipt and bring it to the store for assistance; there is, states Keel, no chance that they are dealing with a merchant that isn’t on the up-and-up. Two-color receipt printing occurs at a high speed of 7.09 inches per second, while such features as “Drop in & Print” paper loading and an easy-to-change, cartridge-type interface minimizes printing delays. A logo storage utility allows logos to be added to receipts without difficulty.

Not long ago, The Sunglass Shop upgraded its point of sale system and needed to install printer drivers in its TSP700 printer so that the two devices would interface with each other. Keel tried to do the job alone, but was unsuccessful. A quick telephone call to Star Micronics’ technical support department solved the problem. Tech support personnel walked Keel through the process, and everything was up and running within minutes.

“Again, we can print receipts on demand with no trouble,” Keel concludes. “That leads to better customer service”—just what The Sunglass Shop on Ocracoke is all about.
