When Time is Money – It Adds Up

Posted June 2, 2015

cdfWhen choosing a mobile computer or barcode scanner, one of the last things on anybody’s mind is what kind of battery I should buy with my device. Even worse, sellers fail to explain how the battery alone can save a company on time, money and productivity.

Research shows that companies lose at least 20 minutes of productivity every time a battery is changed mid-shift. Here’s an example of what device downtime can cost:

  • 500 devices in operation
  • 500 devices x 1 battery failure each = 500 mid-shift failures per day
  • 500 mid-shift failures x 20 minutes each = 167 hours lost each day
  • 167 hours/day x $9.00/hour = $1,503.00 per day
  • $1,503.00 x 360 days = $541,080 PER YEAR in lost productivity

Don’t take chances with your batteries – IPT Productivity+ Series batteries run 15% – 20% longer and guarantee 100% compatibility with OEM devices including Symbol, Zebra, Motorola, Honeywell, Intermec, LXE, Datamax-O’Neil and Vocollect.

Tech Tips: Endorsement, Slip, and Validation Printing

Posted October 17, 2014

2014-10-17_1619The standard thermal receipt printer that populates most POS checkout lanes today is a single function device for making simple receipts. While this may fill the needs of a basic POS system, there are several types of additional printing that some printers can do for applications that need to also print on checks, return slips, prescriptions or other types of documentation.

The multi-function printers come in a variety of sizes and types with essentially 3 additional types of printing beyond the standard receipt printer.

Advantages of Thermal Receipt Printing

Posted October 16, 2014

41B1BI6zkdL._SX342_By far, the largest single contributor to POS system operating costs is the receipt printer. It is the only part of the POS system that requires supply items and it also requires more attention than any other POS peripherals. In the new era of POS system open architecture, retailers have the chance to select from many choices, a printer that provides them with the least “trouble” and operating expense. A shift in printing technologies, which has just gotten underway in the POS arena, is beginning to provide retailers with reduced operating costs.

Thermal printing is fast replacing impact printing in many key retail sectors. By its very nature, impact printing wears out parts faster and requires more frequent maintenance. Impact printers also require more attention because they have two supply items; ribbon and paper. Loading paper is complicated by the fact that the paper must be threaded under the ribbon. Nearly everyone has experienced the annoyance of waiting in line while the check out clerk goes looking for the resident paper/ribbon loading guru. With thermal receipt printing, their are no impact parts to deal with.

Star Micronics Broadens WebPRNT SP700 and TSP700II Product Range

Posted May 9, 2014

2014-05-09_1454Since its initial launch in Fall 2013, WebPRNT has been one of Star’s most popular technologies. Its unique ability to enable device-agnostic receipt printing by supporting HTTP requests used in web-based applications sets it apart from other receipt printers. WebPRNT is equipped with Ethernet connectivity. Easy to read, maintain and modify; developers simply use the appropriate XML tags or integrate Star’s WebPRNT Javascript library into their web-based application to print to Star’s WebPRNT receipt printer.

To meet customer demand, Star is adding SP700 (impact printing) and TSP700II (label printing) to its growing WebPRNT family.
