Comparing Honeywell Presentation Scanners

Posted June 1, 2017

You’ve been hearing about the new Honeywell presentation scanner – the Orbit 7190g – a hybrid laser + imager scanner

How does it compare to the Honeywell Genesis 7580g (aka the Starbuck’s scanner)?

Honeywell 7580g Scanner

Here is how:

  • If you are scanning mostly screens (digital coupons) and occasionally merchandise then you want the Honeywell Genesis 7580g.  Think of the Starbuck’s use case.
  • If you are scanning mostly merchandise and occasionally screens then you want the new Honeywell Orbit 7190g hybrid.  Think Convenience Stores looking to start scanning digital coupons.

And if you are scanning just merchandise then you want the Honeywell Orbit 7120 (the laser only version). Don’t think of the Honeywell Orbit 7190g as a cheap alternative to the Honeywell Genesis.  It’s not.

Honeywell’s New Orbit 7190g Hybrid Presentation Scanner

Posted April 28, 2017

Just like it’s extremely popular and best selling Orbit 7120 older brother, the new Orbit 7190g scanner is an innovative, elegant and affordable solution for convenience retail applications where counter space is at a premium. The Orbit 7190g scanner continues the proven, superior 1D laser scanning performance of Orbit series scanners – but adds an area imager for seamless scanning of digital 1D, 2D and PDF codes in a single, convenient device. To make retail checkouts faster and more hassle-free, the Orbit 7190g scanner features a unique dual-modes design that is optimized for both the cashier and the customer – enabling seamless product barcode scanning and scanning of digital codes off customer smartphones.

Features and Benefits:

  • Breakthrough Hybrid Technology – The Orbit 7190g scanner integrates both a laser and an imager into a single presentation scanner – no need to buy a separate scanner for printed 1D and digital 1D, 2D and PDF barcodes reading.
  • Dual-Working Modes – With dual-working modes, the scanner is optimized for both scanning digital codes off customer smartphones and scanning merchandise codes by the cashier at the register.
  • Superior Scanning Performance – A 20-line omnidirectional laser pattern maintains the proven 1D scanning performance of existing Orbit scanners. With leading Honeywell imaging technology, the scanner reads smartphone coupons and ID cards with ease.
  • Adjustable Scan Head – The award-winning shape enables handheld scanning of large, bulky items. The adjustable scan head even allows cashiers to tilt the scanner 30° for targeted scanning of larger products.
  • Multi-Interface Design – Automatic interface detection enables the scanner to configure itself to the appropriate interface upon connection – eliminating the tedious task of scanning programming barcodes.

E-Book: The Move to the Omni-Terminal POS

Posted June 3, 2016

With 90% of retail sales still happening at the store-level, it’s unacceptable for consumers to wait in long check-out lines, or hunt for a associate to ask about product availability. The integration of digital solutions is forcing retailers to transition traditional POS functionality beyond merely checking out customers. The omichannel world continues to change the breadth of retailing, and stores must learn to adapt.

Many retailers are exploring how to implement evolving business concepts as a means to stay relevant in an always-on business environment, they must move beyond traditional point-of-sale (POS) systems toward the next-generation “omni-terminal.”

Honeywell Offers Shielded Illumination with Presentation Scanners

Posted May 4, 2016

Shielded Illumination. What is it? In short, it’s a Honeywell-designed feature that minimizes the light emitted from a scanner preventing operators and customers from getting their eyes zapped by the barcode scanner. It significantly reduces the intense illumination often associated with imaging-based scanners.

Is it important? Yes! It allows retailers to manage their point of sale operations quickly, efficiently, and without any customer complaints.
