New Microscan MINI Hawk imager with 3 Megapixel sensor for Reading Direct Part Marks

Posted October 27, 2010

Microscan announces a new three megapixel resolution configuration in the popular MINI Hawk series of compact direct part mark (DPM) imagers. The powerful new three megapixel MINI Hawk is the smallest and highest performance autofocus imager in its class for reading small DPM marks straight out of the box.

This MINI Hawk is specifically designed for reading small 2D direct part marks widely used in medical device and electronics manufacturing industries. Electronic components such as printed circuit boards (PCBs) typically have very little space to add barcodes for traceability. Small 2D Data Matrix codes are ideal for this type of application; however they require a product with enhanced DPM reading capabilities to capture this critical data. The fully integrated design of the MINI Hawk makes it easy for electronics and other manufacturers and their suppliers to read these codes. Also available in high speed and high resolution configurations, the imager can also consistently read symbols that are damaged, distorted or otherwise challenging due to direct part marking.

Datalogic GD4100Apoteket Ensures ‘The Right Medicine for the Right Patient’ with Datalogic Scanning’s Gryphon™ Bar Code Readers

Overview

Apoteket is a non-profit pharmaceutical production and distribution center located in Stockholm, Sweden. The company produces both prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for local residents. It is Apoteket’s mission to provide patients with the correct medication, in the proper dosage, at the right time. Since Apoteket is state-owned, it also acts as a ‘communication hub’ between the government and nine million swedes to ensure that patients receive their medications without price variation throughout the country.

The Challenge

Apoteket has 28 production facilities that fill prescriptions for more than 150,000 patients residing in special care housing.

Since most of the patients are elderly, it is critical to deliver correct medications. “Failure to do so could be a matter of life and death,” says richard Hellström, technical Manager at Apoteket.

To eliminate the opportunity for errors at this critical point in production, Apoteket invested in a bar code system for prescription order verification. In this system, bar code scanners are used to read labels during production and packaging to verify that the selected medications are placed into the correct prescription package. the only problem was that the production operators struggled with the reading range and performance of Apoteket’s current scanning solution.

Datalogic Scanning Announces Partnership with Mobile Marketing Provider

Posted May 12, 2010

Datalogic 1100iContinuing to leverage the rapidly expanding mobile commerce and marketing trends in retail, Datalogic Scanning is pleased to announce its joint marketing agreement with RocketBux, a white label mobile marketing services provider.

With over 2.4 billion active users worldwide and 10 times as many consumer access points as the wired internet, the mobile marketing industry is positioned for unprecedented growth. These statistics are not lost on retailers, payment processors or loyalty companies who are eagerly adopting services to take full advantage of this new, high-growth channel.

Datalogic Scanning and RocketBux began working together in 2008 by deploying several mobile commerce pilot programs utilizing Datalogic’s new imaging-based POS bar code scanners and RocketBux’s leading suite of mobile commerce tools, which includes bar codes that are generated by mobile phones. Datalogic Scanning selected RocketBux because their solutions are simple to use and require no special downloads or applications.

RocketBux’s bar coded products work extremely well with Datalogic’s exclusive Illumix™ Intelligent Illumination Technology, which enables retailers to quickly and easily read bar codes from mobile phones without any cashier or user intervention at the POS. They also use superior, patented bar code optimization technology with either 1D or 2D codes. Both companies agree these features are necessary to achieve the broadest adoption rate among consumers.

Honeywell barcode scannersEnhanced EasyDL™ software parses data on Texas, Ohio and encrypted Georgia licenses

Honeywell announced that their EasyDL software plug-in has been enhanced, enabling select area-imaging scanners to parse and decrypt bar code data found on Georgia state licenses for applications involving age verification and automatic electronic form population. Honeywell Scanning & Mobility’s area-imaging scanners now lead the AIDC industry in their ability to scan all U.S. and Canadian driver’s licenses that include PDF417 bar codes. Ohio and Texas are the latest states to include a PDF417 bar code on the back of its licenses, bringing the total number of driver’s licenses that Honeywell supports to 47 states and two Canadian provinces.

Age verification is a federal requirement for retail stores selling age-restricted items such as tobacco, liquor and gambling products. With a quick scan of a customer’s driver’s license, Honeywell’s EasyDL provides retailers with an age verification solution to ensure federal compliance is met. The solution lessens the responsibility placed on the cashier or business owner by eliminating user error associated with manually checking birthdays on identification cards.
