Socket Mobile Announces Barcode Scanner Compatibility with Apple iOS 7

Socket Cordless Hand Scanner 7 Series ScannerSocket has announced that their Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) Series 7 and Series 8 barcode scanners are both compatible with Apple iOS 7. The products’ seamless compatibility with the latest Apple devices underlies Socket’s commitment to supporting the latest smartphones and tablets used by businesses for retail point of sale, field sales and service, and other mobile applications.

As a member of the Apple Developer Program, Socket obtained a beta version of iOS 7 to successfully confirm compatibility with both the CHS barcode scanners and the SocketScan 10 Software Development Kit (SDK), which enables developers to embed support for both the CHS Series 7 and Series 8 into their applications. All current models of both the Series 7 and Series 8 are Apple MFi certified to support two-way communications with Apple iOS devices.

Applications compiled with the SocketScan 10 SDK will work with iOS 7. The SDK is available to members of the Socket Mobile Developer Program.


The New Honeywell Captuvo SL22 and SL42

Honeywell’s Captuvo SL42 and SL22 are snap-on accessories for the Apple iPhone 5 and fifth generation iPod Touch mobile digital devices, respectively, turning the consumer devices into selling tools that allow retail workers to look up inventory, scan barcodes and securely process payment, bringing the check out to the shopper so no one has to wait in line.

Scanning performance, durability and ease-of-use were key factors that led executives from Sportsman’s Warehouse to equip workers in each of its 46 stores with the Captuvo SL22 for iPod Touch mobile digital devices. The company’s big-box stores across the United States are a one-stop shop for outdoors enthusiasts, selling sporting goods, clothing, footwear and supplies to campers, fishers and hunters.

Honeywell Introduces New EZConfig for Scanning v4.1

2013-08-21_0945Setting up a new scanner has historically meant using a programming manual and scanning various barccodes to customize the device as you needed. Luckily for us, Honeywell has developed an easy to use application to quickly configure their scanners called EZConfig.

Honeywell’s EZConfig for Scanning 4.1 has been improved to facilitate fast and easy barcode scanner configurations with an improved, user-friendly interface. Some new features include: port agnostic automatic device discovery, expanded interface support, configuration history with undo functionality, and simplified data formatting – all from an HTML-5 platform independent browser-based utility.

Improve and Expand Your Scanning Capabilities with Motorola’s LI2208

While this may have been more true in the past with traditional laser scanners, recent advances in imaging technologies have brought expanded capabilities to scanners without increases in costs.

The same type of hardware that is being used for cameras in smartphones and tablets is also being used to make better barcode scanners. These new scanner types are called imagers since they are essentially capturing a picture of the barcode and then decoding it. Historically, imagers have been quite a bit more costly than a standard laser scanner but with new units like the Motorola LI2208, we now have imaging scanners at the same cost as a laser scanner.
