ICYMI: Eliminate Chargebacks with Barcode Verification Webinar

Posted July 15, 2021

Shipments with unreadable labels cannot be automatically scanned by an overhead barcode reader. These exceptions require manual intervention leading to a chargeback. A chargeback can be as much as 15%–20% of an invoice and gets automatically deducted from the supplier’s invoice.

In this webinar, Barcodes Group and Honeywell showed how integrated label verification technology provides customers with error-free printing, and cost savings of $15K per printer.

Key takeaways demonstrated during this webinar:

• How verification technology ensures bad barcodes do not get used, eliminating hidden chargeback fees
• How precision printing addresses the trend toward miniaturization, resulting in cost savings of $6K in scrap costs per printer
• Why the Honeywell PX940V is the only ANSI grading inline verifier and has automatic void/reprint

Zebra Printers Unable to Print After Installing Windows Update

Posted July 12, 2021

It has become evident that after installing KB5003690 or later Windows Security updates (including out of band updates, KB5004760 and KB5004945), users are having issues printing to certain printers. The issues are primarily found with receipt and label printers that connect via USB.

Printers affected include all printers running Windows 10 versions 21H1, 20H2, or 2004 and all printers running Windows Server 20H2 or 2004. Zebra printers have been impacted, as well as other brands and models.

Windows is aware of the issues affecting multiple brands of printers when printing from PCs that have been recently updated via the Windows Update Service (KB5004945, KB5004760, or KB5003690). They have found that the most common symptom is print jobs being sent, but not actually printing.

This issue is observed after users install the Windows 10 out-of-band security update KB5004945 (or previous updates, KB5004760 and KB5003690). The KB5004945 security update addresses a remote code execution exploit in the Windows Print Spooler service, known as “PrintNightmare,” documented in this article.

The following are the affected Windows 10 versions and their Update KB IDs (build numbers):

  • Windows 10/Windows Server version 21H1, 20H2, 2004 – KB5004945 (Builds 19041.1083, 19042.1083, and 19043.1083), including previous updates KB5004760 (Builds 19041.1082, 19042.1082, and 19043.1082) and KB5003690 (Builds 19041.1081, 19042.1081, and 19043.1081)

Please see the links below to view the steps being taken to address these issues across multiple versions of Windows:

Redefine Ultra-Rugged Scanning with Honeywell’s Granit XP 199Xi Series

Posted June 30, 2021

Honeywell’s Granit XP scanners expand capabilities and redefine ultra-rugged scanning. Engineered to persevere after the impact of 10-foot drops and 3.3 foot tumbles from loading docks, fork trucks, and picking trucks, the Granit XP scanners deliver indestructible durability. The scanners embody best-in-class 7,000 tumble specification and IP67 sealing which ensures Granit XP scanners will be ready to work for the long term.

Barcodes boost efficiency in the world of data entry, maximizing productivity in your operations. However, damaged and low quality barcodes can slow down transactions. Due to low quality printing or damage during handling in the warehouse/DC and industrial space, bad labels commonly occur. Built on Honeywell’s next generation imaging platforms, Granit XP ensures that otherwise challenging labels do not hinder your process. The Granit XP models offer high-durability, extreme performance scanning for standard range operations. Created for applications where high speed scanning is needed to maximize productivity, and where durability is non-negotiable for low total cost of ownership, the Granit XP scanners offers the optimal solution.

Features & Benefits:

  • Built to survive harsh treatment including 3 m (10 ft) drops, 7,000 1 m (3.3 ft) tumbles, operating temperatures from -30°C to 50°C (-22°F to 122°F) and IP67 sealing
  • Granit provides extreme performance scanning, even on damaged and low-quality barcodes.
  • Honeywell Operational Intelligence software delivers on-demand scan insights, enabling higher employee productivity and throughput.

Maximizing Return on Investment When Purchasing Forklift Mount Technology

Posted June 23, 2021

GJ Header

Keeping up with and knowing how to best leverage both the latest forklift technology with the best docking and mounting solution in today’s Material Handling and Distribution industry is at the core of maximizing a profitable operation.  Prioritizing the importance of return on investment (ROI) as a key deliverable in a technology/docking/mounting purchase decision is critical in balancing today’s cost with its’ future value or ROI.  Understanding first how to calculate labor productivity and then reviewing 4 important advantages that improve productivity will ultimately improve the bottom line.  They are:

  1. Increased Capabilities and Performance
  2. Increased Flexibility
  3. Improved Technology Safety and Performance
  4. Improved Overall Productivity

It starts with calculating your current process labor productivity using the mathematic calculation detailed here:

Labor Productivity

Once labor productivity is identified, researching both the best technology options available with the best docking and mounting solution that allows improved labor times is the next step and where Barcodes, Inc. adds immense value.  As a full-service technology provider, Barcodes, Inc.’s core competency is delivering convenient, complete and effective solutions.

This is accomplished by understanding individual needs and making recommendations based on delivering on these four advantages that result from improved technology/docking/mounting solutions.

Increased Capabilities and Performance – The number one driver in your decision to initially purchase or upgrade your current technology/docking/mounting configuration is understanding not just the technology benefits, but the benefits of your docking and mounting solution.  This is as critical a component as the technology itself. Gamber-Johnson, one of Barcodes, Inc. long time technology docking and mounting manufacturing partners, offers commercially designed, rugged, reliable, and responsive solutions specifically for Material Handling duty cycles. It is this combination that fully maximizes the results of increased capabilities and performances.

Increased Flexibility Improving user flexibility through unique design features and capabilities of technology/docking/mounting solutions is also a key driver to improved ROI. Offering you a choice of a standard mounting solution or designing a personalized mounting solution (if required minimum order quantities are met) is something Barcodes, Inc. representatives and Gamber-Johnson offers. Working together, we can design, test, and build a custom docking/mounting solution that can greatly enhance the flexibility you need to improve productivity while providing you a simple, convenient purchasing and install process saving you precious time.

Increased Technology Safety – Protecting technology when installed in the dock and mount is critical.  Primary vibration passing through a forklift when encountering an uneven surface is magnified immensely and directly affects a docking/mounting combinations ability to absorb severe vibration without failure.  Why a rugged, reliable, responsive design to meet the harsh criteria of a typical material handling duty cycle is critical, especially when making a long-term purchasing decision.  To maximize productivity and ultimately ROI, dock/mount failure is not an option.

Proving Overall Productivity – Real-time testing of the best identified technology/docking/mounting combination and comparing the improved process timing using it to original labor productivity data captured quantifies time savings and ROI increases.  Multiplying that number into the future cements payback time and the residual incremental profit thereafter completing the improved ROI exercise. It all starts by simply contacting your local Barcodes, Inc. representative to understand, develop and ultimately provide you with the complete turnkey solution to your team’s specific needs and requirements to maximize ROI and deliver incremental revenue.
