Zebra Brings Modern Wi-Fi to Moscow’s Gorky Park

Motorola AP 6562 Access PointMoscow’s Gorky Park has recently deployed a wireless network solution from Zebra to enable thousands of visitors to the park to simultaneously access wireless connectivity for a first-class visitor experience. The new Wi-Fi infrastructure replaces a legacy network which was failing to meet the latest requirements across the parterre section of the Park and cope with bring-your-own-device (BYOD) demand. The new wireless network provides robust security and delivers reliable, seamless coverage of the 68.9 hectare park.

Utilizing AP6562 access points across outdoor and indoor locations in the park, Zebra WiNG architecture was installed to provide a quality Wi-Fi service based on the number of mobile clients in different areas across the park. The design support for thousands of mobile devices allows visitors to use enterprise-grade Wi-Fi at an almost unlimited speed in both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands through a distributed WiNG architecture which prevents bottlenecks or connection losses. Visitors experience seamless high-speed Wi-Fi roaming on a secure network that protects their devices and the entire network from hacking. As a result, visitors to the Gorky Park can use a variety of online resources and social media as well as high-bandwidth applications like YouTube and Skype with confidence.

Case Study: Noble Expands on Growth Curve with Honeywell Solutions

Since Noble Plumbing Supply and Trade Plumbing Supply merged to form Noble in 1997, the wholesale supplier of plumbing, HVAC, hydronics, industrial, building maintenance and fire protection products, has grown to more than 50 branches and counting, becoming the largest wholesaler in the greater Toronto area and one of the largest in all of Ontario. With recent expansion into both Quebec and British Columbia, Noble now has more than 200 delivery trucks and 24-hour service.

With growth came the need for a better proof of delivery (POD) system. The company also looked to automate its shipping and receiving process to streamline overall operations. They engaged Intermec by Honeywell and Nuway Software, a custom software solutions provider, to implement a new technology solution for improved signature capture and better shipping, receiving and scanning capabilities.

The solution? A custom software solution from Nuway Software coupled with the Intermec by Honeywell CN50 handheld mobile computer.

UK Fashion Retailer SuperGroup Plc offers quality clothing and accessories through e-commerce, a multi-channel network of stores and wholesale operations. In 2003, the company owner joined forces with a UK designer to develop and create a new in-house brand known as Superdry. This brand offers a wide range of clothing, bags and accessories. It has a wide appeal, capturing elements of “urban” and “street wear” designs with subtle combinations of vintage Americana, Japanese imagery and British tailoring, all with strong attention to detail. 135 UK and European stores, as well as celebrity publicity from David Beckham and Zac Efron, has driven Superdry to become an internationally acclaimed fashion brand sold in over 100 countries.

The Challenge
The popularity of Superdry grew the number of stores at a rapid rate, straining operations. This began to impact sales, as accurate and up-to-date information on inventory was not available. Keeping this in consideration, Superdry decided to upgrade their systems for POS and inventory management. The new automation system would include: hardware for shelf replenishment, inventory management and fast service at the point of sale. Plant Access Grows Its Competitive Edge with Honeywell RFID Solutions

Plant Access is a specialised logistics services provider, catering for the green life industry. Plant Access provides a highly efficient service utilising a unique, innovative steel stillage design used to pick, crossdock and deliver nursery plants to Bunnings Warehouse locations across Victoria and South Australia.

Weeding out manual processes

Plant Access manages the orders and provides the steel stillages that are used to transport plant products from over 67 nursery supplier sites to Bunnings stores across Victoria and South Australia. Shipments from different suppliers are consolidated at the Plant Access cross dock facility before orders are transported to Bunnings locations and plants are sold to consumers direct out of the steel stillages.

At any one time, Plant Access has thousands of re-usable steel stillages spread across hundreds of sites throughout the supply chain. Knowing the location of all these stillages and the status of an order was a serious challenge for Plant Access under a legacy paper-based manual ordering system.

A new automated tracking system was necessary to capture real-time data from nursery supplier sites, the Plant Access cross dock logistics facility and the Bunnings stores, in order for Plant Access to have an accurate and instant visibility of their stillage assets and the products they were transporting.

Case Study: British American Tobacco: Increasing productivity and reducing errors

British American Tobacco (BAT) is the market leader in the Romanian tobacco industry. Operations began, as a local affiliate, in 1994 and BAT Romania was founded as a domestic business entity in 1996. Local production began at the company’s Ploiesti factory in 1997. The factory now employs more than 500 staff and produces brands including Kent, Lucky Strike, Pall Mall, Dunhill, Vogue, Viceroy and Rothmans for both local and international markets.

The company’s sales agents had previously been using a range of dot matrix printers for printing all required documents to carry out their daily engagement with customers. However, poor printer performance, costly printer consumables, printer size and issues related to limited connectivity led to BAT looking for a new solution to ensure that their sales agents’ productivity levels were improved. They looked to upgrade to a printer that could withstand the rigours of the field sales environment and that could grow with them in the future.

Case Study: Datamax-O’Neil Performance Series Meets the Challenge of Small Text and Data on Cryogenic Labels

For a leading ISO 13485:2003-certified OEM manufacturer of enzymes, meeting the rigorous demands of commercial entities engaged in the development, manufacture, and distribution of platforms dedicated to nucleic-acid identification is a daily challenge. Enzymes are critical to the performance of these applications, and the industry’s relentless pursuit of higher performance emphasizes the need for analytical-reagent purity and absolute production consistency.

Operating from the perspective that they are “a manufacturing division of their customer,” the company consistently delivers the highest quality and value enzymes, leveraging them to drive customer success via a business partnership model. Part of that consistent delivery means labeling goods so that they are easily and accurately identified when they arrive in the lab.

Problem

When enzymes are manufactured, they start in batches of 50-gallon vats, and then are broken down into small vials as part of a kit sold to research and testing facilities. These vials must be labeled individually; the labels include a great deal of data, two-dimensional barcodes, and very small type. Because of the temperatures at which they need to be maintained, cryogenic polypropylene labels are used.

Case Study: Using High-Speed Communications to Improve Paradise

Due to an outdated communications infrastructure and inefficient public and guestroom Wi-Fi access, the Grand Hyatt Kauai’s guest satisfaction ratings were dropping.

Although one of Hyatt’s showcase resort properties, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa was struggling with low guest satisfaction scores in its high-speed Internet service. The property’s outdated frame relay and microwave system was constantly going down during heavy rainstorms, requiring numerous resources— including helicopter service—and up to two weeks to fix problems. In addition, Wi-Fi service in guest rooms was slow, inconsistent and unreliable, especially during high occupancy periods like the holiday season.

SOLUTION

Working with a new service provider and using Zebra technology, the Grand Hyatt Kauai successfully completed the upgrade before the 2012 holiday season.

The Grand Hyatt Kauai worked with island-based systems integrator Pacific DirectConnect, a company highly experienced in the use of Zebra’s leading edge wireless technology. The team installed a high-speed wireless network using Zebra indoor Access Points (APs) and three-port wall plates in guestrooms, outdoor APs for property-wide roaming and an RF Switch (RFS) controller for consistent, reliable coverage everywhere on the resort. The system enables the resort to communicate with Wi-Fi-enabled devices, and the Hyatt corporate platform.
