Wavespeed-S Wireless Bluetooth Serial Adapter from Digi with bluetooth technology provides wireless data transfer up to 100 meters with the Class 1 radio and up to 10 meters with the Class 2 radio. Security is ensured with features like encryption, authentication and adjustable transmit range. It creates a wireless serial link transparent to application software. It is designed for use in either bonding mode or Serial Port Profile (SPP) server mode. It increases user mobility in mobile computing (emergency vehicles, delivery trucks), point-of-sale and other mission-critical applications.

Wavespeed/S utilizes Bluetooth technology to offer a secure, standards-based solution to enable wireless RS-232 serial cable replacement between a peripheral device and a host. This standalone solution is transparent to the host application software - it acts as the serial cable and transfers data wirelessly without special software or drivers. Wavespeed/S is designed for use in either bonding mode or Serial Port Profile (SPP) server mode.

In bonding mode, two Wavespeed/S adapters are paired together, forming a wireless link for instant serial cable replacement. One Wavespeed/S is connected to a host PC; the other is attached to a serial peripheral device like a bar-code scanner, receipt printer or scale. Following configuration, these two Wavespeed/S adapters transfer information between the host and device, just as if they were joined by a hardwired serial cable. Alternatively, a single Wavespeed/S adapter may be used in SPP server mode. In this mode, Wavespeed/S will make an SPP connection with any SPP-capable Bluetooth device, such as a PDA, PLC or WAN radio.
