A Guide to Fraction Fun
Fractions have a bad reputation among kids, but if approached in the right way, kids will learn that they have nothing to fear from fractions! A ratio is just a comparison of numbers, like, say, 4:3. Fractions are mostly used to compare parts of a whole to the whole itself. For example, if one starts with four pieces of pie (the whole), and one eats only two pieces of pie, there are two pieces of pie out of the whole left. This means that 2/4 pieces have been eaten, or one-half of the pie was eaten.
