The DS9208 is part of the next generation of presentation scanners that are now using 2D imaging engines over the traditional omni-directional lasers used in the past. With an imaging engine you still get a wide read area for faster scans without aiming, but also the added benefit of being able to read any type of code. This makes the DS9208 ideal for POS stations that also want to do age verification for liquor and tobacco sales. Due to its speed and hands-free operation it also works well in attendance applications since it is easy to get accurate, fast reads of IDs. If cost is a concern the LS9208i offers the same presentation scanning but without the 2D barcode reading. With the expanding use of 2D barcodes and age verification needs, the DS9208 is a drop-in upgrade for older omni-directional laser scanners.
